So.. I just got diagnosed with Graves Disease. Now, at first, I was thinking.. hey, what's one more pill a day? I mean, I already had plenty of conditions for a 20-something woman.. ADHD, PMDD, TMD, asthma, allergies, dysautonomic syncope.. and lots of medications to go with them. So yeah, I wasn't too worried at the get go. I was just happy that I hadn't been ravenously hungry, losing weight, and desperately thirsty all the time because I was diabetic. Because while I am vastly impressed with people who can manage to give themselves three or more shots a day, I'm not so sure how I would do with that. I guess I would have to rise to the occasion, but.. I have to say I was relieved I didn't have to.
Then, I started getting my husband's cold. He bought some Tylenol Nighttime Cold and Head Congestion medicine when it got bad, so I turn over the back to read the instructions. Since I read everything, I read the "ask a doctor before use if you have" section, not expecting anything worrisome. But there it was: thyroid disease. I promptly called a 24 hour health help line that our insurance runs. I was hoping for them to say, "Oh, no, that's for people with hypothyroid. Not hyperthyroid."
Instead, the registered nurse said, "That's all thyroid disease. And don't take anything until you talk to a pharmacist or your doctor."
So not only is my thyroid causing my body to go crazy.. but now I have to be extra careful about what else I can take. Because I looked online and found out that people who have taken cold medicine without realizing sometimes took 3-6 weeks to recover.
Guess it's time to clean out the medicine cabinet.. or divide it into "husband can take" and "wife can take" sections!
